The George Alexander Foundation Scholarship Program at Swinburne University

The George Alexander Foundation Scholarship Program commenced at Swinburne University of Technology in 2007 to support students who need to move away from home to attend the university.

Seven scholarships are awarded annually, each valued at $24,000 and paid in instalments during the scholar's degree.

The scholarships are open to commencing first-year students who can demonstrate the need to reside away from home to undertake study at Swinburne University's Melbourne campus.

All GAF scholarships recognise students who can demonstrate academic merit, community involvement and leadership capability.

Being a long-distance commuter usually means that you never really connect with other students. The scholarship has allowed me to move closer to uni and connect with people.

A vital strength of the Scholarship Program at Swinburne University is the GAF Scholars Network. The network was established in 2008 to ensure that commencing scholars had support when they arrived at Swinburne. Existing scholars mentor newcomers, assisting them with the transition to university life and living away from home. Scholars have access to peer support, information sharing, and academic and social opportunities.
